My most recent travels took me to a part of the world that I knew existed but I didn’t know what to expect from it. Shetland Islands came at me like a delicious dash of cold breeze on a hot and humid day. 2019 has been a tough year for me and all I needed was to be in a place that made me forget my “real” life and let me be… Shetland proved to be exactly that and much more!
Politically speaking Shetland is in the UK and is a part of Scotland but geographically and historically, it is closer to Norway than the UK mainland. This should give you a fair idea about the wonderfully complex amalgamation of cultures, food and people that these islands have to offer. And if that wasn’t enough, nature blessed it with a beauty so raw that it kind of tugs at your heart and makes you want to cry and laugh at the same time.
It’s a great place to practice niksen or achieve mindfulness or meditate, it’s a place that truly puts you in touch with your inner self.
These pictures do not do justice to the actual beauty of Shetland but I tried my best! I could not capture the essence of the place through by camera but I am hoping I came close…
